The finale to Season 8 of American Idol aired on May 27, 2010.
It was a special finale because it marked the last show for the most popular judge, Simon Cowell. All the former American Idol winners were there in tribute. Those who attended were Kelly Clarkson, Reuben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Kris Allen. There were also many performances in honor of Simon's farewell. Those included Chicago, Michael McDonald, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson, Bret Michaels and Joe Cocker.
In the end, Lee DeWyze beat out Crystal Bowersox to become the 9th American Idol.
